WE’VE HAD THAT HAPPEN TO US HERE. AND WE EVEN HAD A VEGETATION FIRE THAT’S GOING ON RIGHT NOW. HEATHER, HOW ARE THE WINDS LOOKING? YEAH, WELL, FORTUNATE. THE WINDS RIGHT NOW NOT AS STRONG AS THEY’VE BEEN OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS. BUT THIS IS THE POINT IN THE DAY WHERE WINDS WOULD BE AT THEIR STRONGEST. AT LAST CHECK AREAS AROUND YUBA COUNTY REPORTING WIND GUSTS BETWEEN 10 AND 15MPH. BUT I WANT TO START WITH SATELLITE PICTURE. WHAT YOU’RE SEEING HERE ARE THE TOPS OF THOSE STORM CLOUDS DEVELOPING IN THE SIERRA AND THEN KIND OF SPILLING DOWN THE WEST SLOPE OF THE SIERRA AS WELL. ALSO SOME CLOUDS TRYING TO MOVE INLAND. THAT’S THAT LITTLE PIECE OF THE MARINE LAYER THAT’S GOING TO TRY TO BUILD BACK UP LATER ON TONIGHT. HERE’S THE LATEST RADAR SCANS. THIS IS OVER THE PAST HOUR. YOU CAN SEE SOME LIGHT RAIN JUST TO THE EAST OF GRASS VALLEY, PARTS OF INTERSTATE 80 GOING TO BE ON THE WEST SIDE HERE FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS. ALSO WATCHING THIS CELL THAT MOVED RIGHT OVER SOUTH LAKE TAHOE ABOUT 45 MINUTES AGO, PRODUCING A LOT OF LIGHTNING JUST TO THE WEST OF ZEPHYR COVE. THAT IS WEAKENING. BUT AGAIN, IT IS STILL PRODUCING SOME LIGHTNING. SO HOPEFULLY FOLKS AROUND LAKE TAHOE JUST HANGING OUT INSIDE FOR A LITTLE BIT. WINDS RIGHT NOW. YEP, STEADILY ONSHORE THROUGH FAIRFIELD, SUSTAINED AT 26MPH. FANNING OUT THROUGH THE VALLEY. SO WE’VE GOT A SOUTHWEST WIND COMING UP THROUGH YUBA CITY AT 14MPH. AND IT’S A NORTHWEST WIND FOR YOU AND MODESTO. SUSTAINED RIGHT NOW AT 13MPH, FAIRLY FILLED RIGHT NOW, SITTING AT 70 DEGREES. YOU CAN SEE THE VIEW HERE BEHIND ME, THE CAMERA NOT SHAKING AROUND ALL THAT MUCH AND JUST A LITTLE BIT OF HAZE LOOKING OFF ON THE WESTERN HORIZON FOR TOMORROW IN FAIRFIELD. AND THE WIND IS STILL GOING TO BE THERE, COMING RIGHT OUT OF THE SOUTHWEST, ANYWHERE FROM 15 TO 20MPH IN THE AFTERNOON. TEMPERATURES SHOULD STAY IN THE LOW TO MID 70S AS A RESULT OF ALL THAT OCEAN COOLED AIR BEING MOVED INLAND. STOCKTON ON THE OTHER HAND, THE WIND IS WEAKER TOMORROW, COMING FROM THE WEST AT ABOUT 5 TO 10MPH. AND THAT SHOULD ONCE AGAIN ALLOW TEMPERATURES TO CLIMB PRETTY CLOSE TO 80 DEGREES. WE’LL SEE A MIX OF CLOUDS AND SUNSHINE FOR YOU TOMORROW AFTERNOON. OVERALL, OUR PATTERN IS GOING TO START TO CHANGE JUST SUBTLY. WE’VE BEEN IN A NICE LITTLE STRETCH WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE 70S, IN THE VALLEY, 50S AND 60S UP IN THE SIERRA. BUT AS WE GO THROUGH THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS, LITTLE AREA OF LOW PRESSURE THAT’S KEPT THINGS KIND OF UNSETTLED IN THE MOUNTAINS. THAT’S GOING TO MOVE AWAY. IT’S GOING TO PULL THAT RELATIVELY MILD AIR ALONG WITH IT AND IT’S GOING TO MAKE SOME ROOM FOR THE AIR TO WARM UP JUST A LITTLE BIT. NOW, WE’RE TALKING A STEADY WARM UP HERE. A LOT A FEW DEGREES EACH OF THE NEXT FEW DAYS. THE WEEKEND IS LIKELY WHEN THAT WARMTH PEEKS. AND YOU SEE THAT HERE ON THE SEVEN DAY FORECAST TOMORROW, CLOSE TO 80 DEGREES IN SACRAMENTO WILL BE AT 84 ON THURSDAY. THAT IS THE AVERAGE FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. NOTICE THE OVERNIGHT LOWS STILL DROPPING INTO THE LOWER 50. SO CERTAINLY STILL A TIME TO GRAB THE LAYERS BY FRIDAY, IT’S THE UPPER 80S. SO STARTING TO FEEL A LITTLE BIT MORE LIKE SUMMER. I KNOW A LOT OF FOLKS PROBABLY HAD THAT ON THE BRAIN THIS PAST WEEKEND, BUT THIS COMING WEEKEND, HIGHS LIKELY IN THE LOWER 90S IN SACRAMENTO, STOCKTON, MODESTO UP INTO WOODLAND AS WELL. MAYBE WE SEE AN INCREASE IN THE CLOUD COVER A LITTLE BIT ON SUNDAY. COULD BE A LITTLE DISTURBANCE THAT MOVES THROUGH KICKS UP ANOTHER SHOWER OR TWO UP IN THE SIERRA. BUT OVERALL ONCE WE GET INTO THE UPPER 80S AND LOW

(Video) On and off heavy snow, rain in Lake Tahoe expected through New Year's Eve

A strong thunderstorm is forecast to impact areas in the Lake Tahoe area on Tuesday afternoon, the National Weather Service said. People in areas near South Lake Tahoe and Zephyr Cove can expect frequent lightning and up to 50 mph wind gusts with pea-sized hail through 5 p.m. People should get out of Lake Tahoe if they're on the water, the NWS said. An area of low pressure nearby has been helping thunderstorms develop Tuesday afternoon in the Sierra, according to our weather team. These thunderstorms may move slowly, allowing for heavy rain to fall in some areas and bring the potential for flash flooding."Flash flood watch is in effect through this evening because these thunderstorms will contain heavy rain, and when that happens, the water doesn't have a whole lot of places to go because the soils are saturated," said meteorologist Eileen Javora. Most of the activity will be above 5,000 feet in elevation, but some of the storms may drift westward down the west slope of the Sierra — so there is a slight chance some of the Foothills will hear rumbles of thunder or see a bit of rain. The Valley, meanwhile, will have mostly sunny skies with high temperatures in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees.Download our app for the latestHere is where you can download our app for the latest weather alerts.Track interactive, Doppler radar(App users, click here to see our interactive radar.)Real-time traffic map(App users, click here to see our real-time traffic map.)Follow our KCRA weather team on social mediaChief meteorologist Mark Finan on Facebook and TwitterMeteorologist Tamara Berg on Facebook and TwitterMeteorologist Eileen Javora on FacebookMeteorologist Dirk Verdoorn on FacebookMeteorologist/climate reporter Heather Waldman on Facebook and TwitterWatch our forecasts on TV or onlineHere's where to find our latest video forecast.
